Job summary

Axle is seeking a Biological Scientist for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in Bethesda, MD. The role requires extensive biology lab experience and contributes to a range of molecular and cellular techniques.

Qualifications

  • Perform complex procedures: cell culture, DNA analysis, DNA sequencing, flow cytometry
  • Prepare media, stock supplies, and other reagents for lab use
  • Provide specialized scientific support including design, planning, and publication of experiments
  • Assist in laboratory supervision of student training as needed

Certifications & Licenses

Statement of Work Details
  1. Review and research the proper handling and methods of utilization for different biological and chemical materials in regular use in the laboratory - 1
  2. Maintain accurate, daily records of experiments and results in pen in bound laboratory notebooks - 2
  3. Perform a wide variety of complex procedures and techniques; cell culture, DNA analysis, DNA isolation, DNA purification, DNA sequencing, flow cytometry, gene cloning, manipulation of radioactive isotopes - 3
  4. Provides technical experience needed to assist in studying the basic principles of plant and animal life
  5. Provide specialized scientific support, including participation on the design, planning, conduct, and publication of experiments
  6. Maintain accurate, daily records of experiments and results in pen in bound laboratory notebooks
  7. Perform a wide variety of complex procedures and techniques; cell culture, DNA analysis, DNA isolation, DNA purification, DNA sequencing, flow cytometry, gene cloning, manipulation of radioactive isotopes
  8. Assists with performing basic laboratory experiments and procedures
  9. Prepare various media, stock supplies, and other reagents for use in the laboratory
  10. Prepares, organizes and maintains various lab samples, supplies, and equipment
  11. Work with human blood, body fluids or tissues, or other bloodborne pathogens in the research laboratory
  12. Perform classification of pathogenic strains isolated from patients
  13. Learns new laboratory techniques and procedures
  14. Assist in laboratory supervision of student training such as teaching research concepts and helping with practice for presentation on an ad-hoc basis
