The Department of Biology at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for a Lab Specialist to work in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Timko.
The ideal candidate will join a team of researchers working on plant functional genomics and synthetic biology. The individual should be self-directing and able to work independently. They will have demonstrated skills in basic molecular biology and cell culture techniques, including gene cloning, gene transformation, and gene expression analysis using qTR-PCR, western blot analysis, and RNA seq. Basic bio/chemistry work (e.g., buffer and media preparation) and basic bioinformatic analysis are required. Prior experience with plant growth and cell culture is a plus but not essential. The candidate should have the interest and ability to work with undergraduate and graduate students and assist in various research support roles with visiting scientists and scholars.
