Job summary

Penn Medicine in Philadelphia is seeking a bioinformatics professional to serve as the primary point of contact for daily operational needs, ensuring timely results and supporting high-throughput molecular diagnostics.

You will troubleshoot pipelines and IT issues, monitor workflow performance, and collaborate with pathologists, lab staff, and IT to maintain compliant, high-quality services.

A BA/BS in a related field with 1+ years experience is required; a master’s degree is preferred.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biology or related field required.
  • 1+ year experience in bioinformatics or computational biology.
  • MS/MA in related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary point of contact for urgent operational needs affecting clinical bioinformatics workflows.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve pipeline, server, and assay-related issues that could delay clinical result delivery.
  • Collaborate with staff to streamline assay workflows and support high-throughput molecular diagnostics.

Summary
  • Position will serve as a primary point of contact for urgent operational needs, ensuring the timely delivery of results and directly impacting patient care by reducing turnaround time for clinical sign-out. This individual will monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize clinical bioinformatics workflows, maintain infrastructure and server operability, and collaborate closely with laboratory staff, pathologists, and IT teams to support high-quality, high-throughput molecular diagnostics.
Responsibilities
  • Act as the initial point person for daily operational issues affecting PCDclinical assays
  • Troubleshoot and resolve pipeline, server, and assay-related issues that could delay clinical result delivery
  • Ensure operability of machines, servers, and storage systems integral to clinical bioinformatics workflows
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for internal and external IT ticketing systems, escalating issues as needed
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement improvements to enhance turnaround time and result accuracy
  • Collaborate with staff to streamline assay workflows and integrate updated tools
  • Monitors and maintains the laboratory quality control indicators to conform to all accreditation agencies.
  • Assists the supervisor in specified activities that ensure laboratory compliance with all accreditation agencies.
Education or Equivalent Experience
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required) with Education Specialization: Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biology or a related field. Equivalent Experience:
  • And 1+ years Relevant experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or related fields required. Genomics data analysis experience preferred.
  • Master of Arts or Science (Preferred) with Education Specialization: Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biology or a related field. Equivalent Experience:
