Position Summary: Guardant is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Bioinformatics Scientist to join our Clinical Genomics team. This role plays a critical part in the ongoing development and improvement of clinical DNA and RNA-based cancer diagnostics. You will leverage large-scale sequencing data (DNA, RNA, epigenetics) to help shape cutting-edge assay technologies, drive innovation in genomic analysis pipelines, and ensure clinical robustness in data interpretation. Your contributions will directly impact patients' lives through enhanced clinical reporting and biomarker discovery. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and optimize computational methods and pipelines to analyze DNA and RNA NGS data (e.g., somatic mutation detection, structural variation, transcript expression, methylation).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with research scientists, clinical operations, and external partners (academic and industry) to explore clinically actionable insights and publish findings.
  • Systematically apply new bioinformatics innovations, internal and external, to solve unmet needs and improve the performance and scalability of Guardant's diagnostics.
  • Develop and maintain robust, reproducible scripts and analysis pipelines using Python, R, C++, and/or shell scripting.
  • Provide expert analytic support to clinical teams operating in highly regulated environments.
  • Present analysis results effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders across the organization.
Qualifications
  • M.S. with 5+ years of industry experience or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics, Biological Sciences, Cancer Biology, Genetics, Genomics, or related field.
  • Proven scientific reputation as demonstrated by scientific publication and/or contribution to successful product development in the biotech industry.
  • Strong background in human genetics and cancer biology.
  • Deep understanding of modern tools and pipelines in genomics for processing and analysis of primary data, including somatic and structural variant calling.
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing data analysis (DNA, RNA, or epigenetic analysis) using Python, R, C++ and/or shell scripting.
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.


Work Environment:

The employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. The majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Additional Information Hybrid Work Model : At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We have found aligning our scheduled in-office days allows our teams to do the best work and creates the focused thinking time our innovative work requires. At Guardant, our work model has created flexibility for better work-life balance while keeping teams connected to advance our science for our patients. For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the base salary range for this full-time position is $109,480 to $150,540. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
