Job summary

GAP Solutions Inc. seeks a Bioinformatics Scientist to support NIH/NIA objectives. You will perform programming and data processing for omics, wearable, and epidemiologic studies, integrating lab data with public datasets and datasets with controlled access.

The role requires building reproducible analysis pipelines and collaborating with researchers to interpret results. Responsibilities include QC, data normalization, genome-wide analyses, and maintaining databases and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Provide programming, data processing, and troubleshooting support for omics and wearable data.
  • Integrate laboratory data with public and controlled-access datasets for downstream analysis.
  • Perform computational analyses for multi-omics and wearable datasets and integrate into epidemiologic research.
  • Develop, execute, test and document reproducible analysis pipelines and workflows.
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff on study planning, data analysis, and interpretation.
  • Prepare reports, tables, figures, slides, and summaries of analytical results for meetings and presentations.
  • Maintain clear documentation of methods, analyses, and results in project records.
  • Contribute computational support to manuscripts and scientific products.
  • Process raw data including quality control, alignment, quantification, normalization, and generation of analysis-ready datasets.
  • Analyze multi-omics, wearable and longitudinal data using standard computational approaches.
  • Maintain and organize omics data, metadata, and analysis files across projects.
  • Help maintain databases, software tools, and computing resources for bioinformatics analyses.
  • Provide large-scale genome-wide DNA and protein sequence analysis.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of Oracle databases for genomics/proteomics.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of web tools/sites.
  • Set up and maintain computer resources and networks of the laboratory.
  • Provide customer service to researchers about LG web resources.
  • Contribute to publication of scientific reports.
  • Provide computational support for laboratory members.
  • Maintain lab computer and network systems.
  • Clean and inspect equipment; present updates to lab members.

Job description

Position Objective:

The Bioinformatics Scientist will provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute on Aging (NIA) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through performance of support services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide programming, data processing, and troubleshooting support for human population-based studies involving omics, clinical, phenotype, and wearable/sensor data 1
  • Assist with integration of laboratory-generated data with public and controlled-access datasets for downstream analysis and interpretation.
  • Perform computational analyses using established bioinformatics and statistical methods for multi-omics and wearable datasets and integrate them into epidemiologic research. 2
  • Support development, execution, testing, and documentation of reproducible analysis pipelines and workflows.
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff and trainees on study planning, data analysis, result interpretation, and troubleshooting for internal and collaborative projects.
  • Prepare reports, tables, figures, slides, and written summaries of analytical results for laboratory meetings, progress reports, and scientific presentations
  • Maintain clear documentation of methods, analyses, and results in laboratory records and shared project resources
  • Contribute computational support to manuscripts, presentations, and other scientific products.
  • Process raw data, including quality control, alignment, quantification, normalization, and generation of analysis-ready datasets 3
  • Analyze multi-omics, wearable and other longitudinal signal/-omics data using standard computational and statistical approaches.
  • Maintain and organize omics data, metadata, analysis files, and related records for different projects, including data tracking, harmonization, documentation, backup, and controlled sharing.
  • Help maintain laboratory databases, software tools, and computing resources used for bioinformatics analyses.
  • Provide large-scale genome-wide DNA and protein sequence analysis 4
  • Assist with development and maintenance of Oracle database for genomics and proteomics projects in the Translational Gerontology Branch TGB 5
  • Assist with development and maintenance of web tolls and web sites
  • Set up and maintain computer resources and networks of the Laboratory
  • Provide customer service by responding to questions about the LG web resources from researchers inside and outside the LG
  • Contribute to the publication of scientific reports
  • Provide computational support for members of the Laboratory
  • Maintain the computer and network system of the Laboratory
  • Clean equipment, inspect equipment, and meet with lab members to present updates.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree in Biology or a science related field
  • Skilled in MS Office Suite
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
