Job summary

City of Hope is seeking a qualified candidate to apply computer and information science to complex biological data. You will develop software and databases for organized data storage and efficient retrieval, while supporting visualization and publication of results.

The role requires collaboration with researchers, data interpretation, and training staff in specialized software and databases, with opportunities to contribute to ongoing projects and infrastructure improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree; experience may substitute for education.
  • 0-1 year experience applying bioinformatics to the analysis, modeling and visualization of sequencing data.
  • Broad knowledge of statistical, mathematical analysis, computer algorithm, programming, and database theory and methods.
  • Knowledge of UNIX/Linux and high performance computing.
  • Experience using R or similar statistical languages.
  • Basic knowledge with Python, Perl, or other languages.
  • Experience with statistical, spreadsheet, graphics and word-processing software packages.

Responsibilities

  • Consult on various research projects under supervision.
  • Collaborate with department personnel on research projects; perform data analysis, visualization, interpretation and informatics resources.
  • Prepare summaries, presentations, manuscript sections and figures for visualization and publication of complex data and results.
  • Develop databases for organized entry, storage and retrieval of complex data.
  • Establish schedules and monitor project status.
