Ideal candidates will have a strong background in biochemistry and problem-solving skills.
Job Title: Biochemistry R&D Scientist – Molecular Diagnostic and Biosensor
Location: New York City (on-site)
Type: Full-time
Start Date: Immediate
Reports to: Head of R&D (Zhujun Huang)
Position Summary:
Glaucus is a mission-driven biotech startup developing NanoBioChip, a semiconductor-
based diagnostic platform. We are seeking an innovative and committed Biochemistry
R&D Scientist to drive molecular sensing strategies, including probe design, surface
chemistry, biochip functionalization, and assay integration.
Key Responsibilities:
• Employ a wide range of biochemical and analytical methods such as: bioconjugation,
DNA modification, spectroscopy/microscopy/cytometry, protein purification, surface
chemistry, fluorescent labeling, bacteria growth.
• Develop anti-fouling microfluidic strategies for integration into the sensor platform.
• Drive new assay features from ideation to proof-of-concept and implementation.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with the device, microfabrication, and electronics
teams.
• Support milestone documentation and reporting efforts.
Required Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or life-sciences related field; or M.S. degree
in biochemistry, bioengineering or life-science related-field with 3+ years of
experience.
• Strong background in surface chemistry, biomolecule-surface interactions,
HPLC/FPLC, UV-Vis, FTIR, SPR, and fluorescence.
• Knowledge in development and validation of biochemical assays for probe-target
interactions (e.g., EMSA, dot blot, fluorescence).
• Expertise in multiplexed molecular assays for small molecule quantification.
• Can work within interdisciplinary collaboration in a fast-paced startup setting.
• Independent problem solver who takes ownership of projects from design to
execution.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with biosensor platforms or diagnostic assay development.
• Experience working with urine/blood samples and biological fluid compatibility.
• Ability to communicate the scientific significance of the project to non-experts in the
field.
• Experience with molecular probe development and validation.
• Connect deeply with our mission—we’re working to enable earlier disease detection
through better ways to measure biology.• Are excited by challenging technical problems.
• Want to be part of building something new and on the cutting edge of biotechnology.
• Enjoy working closely with teammates from different backgrounds in a collaborative,
fast-moving environment.
• If you’re passionate about building biosensors and pushing the boundaries of
biomedical research, we’d love to hear from you.
