Job description

Summary

The Jiang Group at Wayne State University is seeking one highly motivated postdoctoral research associate in biocatalysis and natural product biosynthesis. The primary research objective is to explore enzymes from diverse origins to discover novel biocatalysts for synthesizing pharmaceutically relevant compounds and to create structural diversity of natural products for drug discovery. This position will involve laboratory work in drug discovery, biocatalysis, protein engineering, synthetic biology, molecular biology, and natural product biosynthesis, which is ideally suited for individuals who recently completed doctoral studies and hope to hone their skills in these areas.

Required qualifications

• A Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry, organic chemistry, chemical biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or related disciplines.

Preferred qualifications

• Skills in small molecule chemical/enzymatic synthesis, purification, and characterization.
• Experience with 1D & 2D NMR, HPLC, LC-MS, and GC-MS.
• Skills in enzyme expression, purification, and characterization.
• Experience in natural product isolation and biosynthesis.
• Skills in performing anticancer or antimicrobial assays.
• Skills in continuous flow.
