Job summary

Ryan Specialty, LLC is seeking an experienced Commercial Binding Authority Underwriter to evaluate, price, and manage a portfolio of commercial insurance business. You will build strong broker relationships, drive profitable growth, and apply disciplined underwriting within binding authority guidelines.

The role emphasizes risk evaluation, pricing accuracy, and collaborative problem solving across the underwriting team to deliver tailored insurance solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Insurance, or related field.
• 5+ years of commercial insurance underwriting experience, including Binding Authority.
• Master’s degree with at least 3 years underwriting experience may qualify.
• Experience evaluating risk, determining coverage and pricing, and managing an underwriting portfolio.
• Experience developing and maintaining productive broker relationships.
• Knowledge of commercial policy language, coverage forms, endorsements, and rating methods.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new business, renewals, and endorsements per guidelines; evaluate risks and determine pricing.
• Assess risks, classifications, exposures, pricing, coverage forms, and endorsements.
• Review inspection reports and other information to validate exposures.
• Maintain documentation of underwriting decisions and rationale.
• Manage assigned portfolio with focus on retention and profitable growth.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, customers, and partners.
• Clearly communicate quotes, terms, and underwriting requirements to brokers.
• Establish and manage a pipeline of new business opportunities.
• Collaborate with underwriters to share market and broker insights.
• Contribute to a collaborative, solutions-oriented underwriting environment.
