Job summary

Foresight Group is seeking a Bindery Operator for our Lansing facility. The role involves operating saddle stitcher, folder, guillotine cutter and related bindery equipment to produce high-quality finished products in a fast-paced setting.

You will set up lines, review job specifications, monitor quality, maintain records, and assist in training. This onsite role offers a climate-controlled environment, competitive pay, and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Trade School or Co-op experience preferred.
• 1-3 years Bindery Operator experience preferred.
• Mechanical skills: machine setup and operation (saddle stitcher and folders).
• Use of measuring devices and data recording.
• General computer usage for job costing and labeling.

Responsibilities

• Operate machines such as guillotine cutter and saddle stitcher.
• Prepare and review the job folder for specifications or special instructions.
• Set up and adjust lines and equipment to ensure quality.
• Monitor product quality and maintain records of quantities and quality.
• Cross-train and assist in training of staff on lines.
• Maintain bindery equipment and work area; comply with OSHA safety rules.

The Bindery Operator must have experience on the following equipment: Saddle Stitcher, Folder, Guillotine cutter, Trimmer-stacker, Padding Machine, Drill, Shrink Wrapper, and Creaser/Folder, as well as package/box for customer pick or delivery. The Bindery Operator continues to learn upon assignment to set-up and operate the lines of associated equipment to become a more skillful and versatile operator. Work Schedule: This is a day/first shift role (Monday - Friday) with overtime as needed during peak business times. Other schedules may be available depending on candidate and company needs.

• Acquire the job folder and review it for the specifications or special instructions that may impact the operation or setting up of the machine or equipment
• Follow routine procedures in the setting up and in the operation of the machine or equipment
• Review the quality of the product continuously to meet the standard that is required
• Maintain the required records with quantities, quality, and any other required information
• Cross-train and learn the lines of associate equipment
• Assist in the training of employees new to the specific lines
• Maintain both the bindery equipment and immediate area
• Report unusual conditions or circumstances to the supervisor or the person in charge
• Work on job assignments in other manufacturing areas as needed
• Comply with all OSHA safety requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
• Trade School or Co-op experience in a related field highly preferred
• 1-3 years of Bindery Operator experience preferred
• Mechanical skills
  • Machine set up and operation, Saddle stitcher and folders
  • Set up and fine tune of pocket to ensure minimal drops and stops during operation
  • Set and monitor calipers to ensure quality of finished product
  • Change and adjust trimmer knives
  • Inspect working parts and be able to recognize those that need replacement.
• Use of measuring devices
• Record data
• General computer usage to prepare delivery slips, carton labels and log into software for job costing and time tracking
• Use of manual and battery powered pallet jack

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• May be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period.
• Comfort performing tedious tasks – able to perform repetitive tasks for long periods of time.
• Requires ability to stand for extended periods, handle paper, reach forward, bend and lift boxes or cartons that can weigh up to 50 pounds.
• Exposure to potentially hazardous conditions. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure, including use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) [Safety Glasses, Gloves, and Hearing Protection]
• This position requires onsite presence at the employee’s assigned location for all scheduled shifts.
