Perform “Make Ready” for jobs: Read job jackets for all information; make sure the machine is set up correctly for each job; check work against Proof/Dummy for position and correctness; fill out Bindery Checklists for approval; clarify information with supervisor as needed.
Have knowledge in Setups or be willing to learn, set up or operate MBO/Stahl folders, and understand general machine maintenance.
Possess working knowledge of commonly used offset bindery concepts, practices, procedures and terminology (wrinkles, dog ears, scum, dryup, out of Register, Guide, Off Guide, Gripper, Tail of Sheet and Offset). Operate the machine to automatically fold, slit and score printed sheets.
Enter production data into a computer‑based task tracking system that monitors daily production.
Monitor and maintain quality by following company SOPs.
Understand general mechanical principles.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Be willing to be cross‑trained in other areas of the plant and perform other duties as assigned.
Work well with others and function with limited supervision.
Qualifications
Previous Finishing Operator experience including the ability to set up and operate bindery equipment is required; knowledge of cutting, mailing and folding is highly desired.
Ability to bend and lift 10‑15 pounds continuously and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally; stand for long hours; use hands and wrists continuously in a controlled movement.
Receive and follow instructions and use vision to identify defects.
Perform repetitious tasks in a fast‑paced atmosphere with or without reasonable accommodation.
Excellent communication skills, including good verbal and written comprehension, are required.
Ability to perform basic math calculations is essential.
