Bindery Operator 1 (Folder, Kluge, and/or UV Operator)
Full-time, 1st Shift.
Compensation: USD 18.48 - USD 26.93 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Set up, adjust, and operate various auxiliary binding machines, including folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, and binding/gluing machines.
- May set up automatic bindery machines with multiple functions (e.g., power paper cutters, collators, folders, and speed binders) to produce finished books, catalogs, and magazines.
- Inspect equipment for safety issues.
- Operate automatic adhesive binding machines (perfect binders) that handle collated sheets or signatures.
- Make necessary adjustments to coordinate multiple work stations on a single machine.
- Direct crew through all aspects of production.
- Monitor quality, output, and productivity on the production line.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with different paper weights, sizes, kinds, and colors to identify paper conditions such as excessive moisture or curling.
- Basic mathematics skills (decimals, metric units) for understanding dimensional requirements.
- Proficiency with standard and specialized tools to adjust and maintain machine accuracy.
- Skill in making adjustments to powered machines using hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, punches, and knives.
- Ability to read and interpret written work instructions and maintain dimensional accuracy.
- Knowledge of operating procedures for bindery equipment, including folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, and binding/gluing machines.
- Working knowledge of equipment setup, adjustment, procedures, capabilities, and limitations for folding, collating, and cutting printed materials.
- Ability to direct crew and manage production tasks effectively.
