Qualifications

Job description

For over 60 years, our client has provided best-in-class electrical distribution board, instrumentation, and calibration services to a broad range of industrial, commercial, and municipal customers across the Southeast. Their expertise spans multiple major markets including pharmaceuticals, chemicals, water and wastewater, power generation, manufacturing, gas production and transmission, and food/beverage industries.

Summary

We are recruiting a detail-oriented VDC Modeler to join our team and support the construction planning and execution process. Reporting to the VDC Coordinator, this role will focus on creating and refining 3D construction models that improve workflows, coordination, and resolve constructability issues. The VDC Modeler will work closely with the VDC Manager, VDC Coordinator, and other trades to ensure accurate translation of 2D designs into detailed 3D BIM models while adhering to project specifications, standards, and schedules. The role also involves collaborating with project teams to update models, produce fabrication drawings, and ensure compliance with BIM standards.

Remote with 5 – 10% travel.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Accurately translate 2D design drawings and design intent into detailed 3D BIM Models.
  • Work under the direction of the VDC Manager, VDC Coordinator, & Superintendent.
  • Collaborate and Coordinate with other trades to resolve model clashes and constructability issues.
  • Update and Revise BIM models as approved design changes, approved coordination changes, or internal/external QA/QC issues occur during the project lifecycle.
  • Adhere to BIM Execution Plan (BEP), Model Coordination Schedule, and Model Information Requirements.
  • Ensure models conform to project specifications, company standards, and NEC Code.
  • Produce fabrication-ready Shop Drawings, Installation Drawings, and As-Built drawings directly from BIM models.
  • Ensure proper organization and naming conventions for files and model datasets.

Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Construction Management OR;
  • Five years of electrical experience which includes one year of modeling OR;
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education approved by Human Resources and Cooper Electrical Management personnel.
  • Knowledge of electrical installation techniques.
  • Skill in interpreting plans, diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge and ability to use all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and Bluebeam.
  • Knowledge of Common Data Environments such as ACC, BIM 360, and Procore.
  • Ability to effectively model in different project models with different requirements when projects are running concurrently.
