Job summary

Comfy is seeking an experienced Billing Engineer to own the engineering behind metering usage, payments, credits, and subscriptions. You will protect against financial abuse and enable rapid pricing model launches, working across Go, PostgreSQL, Redis, Temporal, Stripe, Python, and Kubernetes.

You will partner with product and frontend engineers to improve checkout experiences and deliver reliable, auditable billing systems for creators, teams, and enterprises.

Qualifications

• Built and operated billing or payments systems with usage metering, credits, or consumption-based pricing.
• Integrated Stripe with subscriptions, invoices, webhooks, and payment failures beyond the happy path.
• Reasoned about money across distributed systems: idempotency, concurrent updates, reconciliation, rounding, and recovery.
• Backend engineer with relational data modeling and reliable APIs; capable of cross-service collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Meter usage reliably for GPU compute and partner model APIs; handle delayed events, retries, and partial failures so every billable event is recorded once and attributed.
• Own the payment lifecycle: checkout, subscriptions, credits, plan/seat changes, prorations, refunds, and failed-payment recovery; keep systems consistent during late events.
• Reconcile charges, payments, and credits with automated checks and audit trails; recover when credits lag or payments succeed without credits.
• Make pricing easier to ship by building reusable pricing and entitlement systems for creators, teams, and enterprise customers.
• Limit financial abuse with spend controls and detection; collaborate with Support and Finance on disputes and recovery while keeping checkout smooth.
• Provide clear answers to customers and teams; collaborate with product and frontend engineers on billing experiences and investigative tooling.
