Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Billing Supervisor to lead a medical billing team in the San Bernardino area, with partial in-office days and the option to telecommute.

The role focuses on hiring, training, coaching, and ensuring timely collection actions, while balancing customer and employee needs in a fast-paced environment. Standard hours are 07:00AM–03:30PM PST, Monday to Friday.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of medical billing experience.
  • 2+ years of management, supervisory, or team lead experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with healthcare revenue cycle.
  • Experience with computer and Windows PC applications.
  • Ability to work onsite 50% of the time and 50% remotely.
  • Full-time, Monday–Friday, 07:00AM–03:30PM PST.

  • Coordinate and supervise daily/weekly/monthly activities of Medical Billing Representatives.
  • Set priorities for the team to ensure task completion and performance goals.
  • Coordinate work activities with other supervisors, managers, and departments.
  • Recruit, train and staff the department to ensure timely hiring and adequate staffing.
  • Provide coaching and feedback, conduct annual performance reviews.
  • Identify and resolve operational problems using defined processes and judgment.
  • Support for escalated calls and situations from customers as needed.
  • Propose and implement process improvements.

This position follows Office-Based schedule with some in-office days per week. Our office is located at Community Hospital of San Bernardino (1805 Medical Center Dr., San Bernardino, CA 92411) and St. Bernardine Medical Center (2101 N. Waterman Ave., San Bernardino, CA 92404). The remaining days may be worked remotely.

In the role of Billing Supervisor, your role will include the selection and hiring of new team members, training of your team, and ensuring that all policies and procedures are being followed correctly. Balancing both customer and employee needs along with recovering payments is the key to being a successful supervisor/manager in this division.

This position is full-time Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our shift schedules during our normal business hours of 07:00AM – 03:30PM PST.

This will be on the job training and the hours during training will be during normal business hours.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, supervise and accountable for the daily/weekly/monthly activities of Medical Billing Representatives
  • Set priorities for the team to ensure task completion and performance goals for the team are achieved.
  • Coordinate work activities of team with other supervisors, managers, and departments.
  • Participate in the recruitment, training and staffing functions for the department to ensure the timely hiring of qualified new employees, that all employees are properly trained in all aspects of their roles and that staffing levels are adequate to meet the business demand.
  • Provide regular coaching and feedback to team members, including formal corrective action when needed as well as completing annual performance reviews.
  • Identify and resolve operational problems using defined processes, expertise, and judgment.
  • Provide expertise and support for escalated calls and/or situations from both internal and external customers as needed.
  • Consistently provide practical/relevant recommendations for improvements to process or practices and participates in the implementation.
  • Positions in this function contact customers to determine reason for payment delinquency.
  • Negotiate and advise on collection of overdue bills and take appropriate action to recover overdue payments.
  • Handles unresolved inquiries/issues.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and managing organization policies on collection practices.
  • Coordinates, supervises and is accountable for the daily activities of business support, technical or production team or unit.
  • Impact of work is most often at the team level.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older
  • 2+ years of medical billing experience
  • 2+ years of management, supervisory, or team lead experience
  • 2+ years of experience with healthcare revenue cycle
  • Experience with computer and Windows PC applications, which includes the ability to learn new and complex computer system applications
  • Ability to work onsite 50% of the time at Community Hospital of San Bernardino (1805 Medical Center Dr., San Bernardino, CA 92411) and St. Bernardine Medical Center (2101 N. Waterman Ave., San Bernardino, CA 92404). The remaining 50% of the schedule may be worked remotely
  • Ability to work full time, Monday – Friday, 07:00AM – 03:30PM PST

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience coaching and supporting employees through building trust and collaboration that results in improved business and employee performance
  • Clean Claim Rate knowledge

Telecommuting Requirements:

  • Reside within commutable distance to the office at Community Hospital of San Bernardino (1805 Medical Center Dr., San Bernardino, CA 92411) and St. Bernardine Medical Center (2101 N. Waterman Ave., San Bernardino, CA 92404)
  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

Soft Skills:

  • Proficiency with problem- solving approach to quickly assess current state and formulate recommendations
  • Proficiency with conflict management skills to include ability to resolve issues in a stressful situation and demonstrating personal resilience

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $49,700 - $88,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
