Job summary

Valley Behavioral Health in Utah seeks a Billing Specialist I to support the Revenue Cycle by processing billing transactions, verifying insurance, and maintaining accurate patient records. This full-time role operates Monday– Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm, in West Valley City, with a focus on high-quality service to patients and staff.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, with no required prior experience, and will grow within a nonprofit organization committed to accessible behavioral health care

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• No prior experience required (preferred: 1 year billing office).
• Knowledge of insurance billing terminology (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Build knowledge of service-to-payment processes (denials, non-response, service error management, authorizations, eligibility).
• Verify insurance and eligibility for patients using portals or calls; update accounts with correct information.
• Post payments and monitor daily payments from clients.
• Communicate insurance updates to appropriate staff.
• Meet established production goals.

Job Summary

The Billing Specialist I performs a variety of routine billing, accounting, and administrative tasks in support of the Revenue Cycle function. The Specialist works under close supervision and follows established internal controls and procedures for all billing transactions and ensures a high level of customer service.

Essential Functions

• - Builds knowledge and skills to effectively manage all service-to-payment conversion processes (denials, non-response, service error management, authorizations, eligibility)
• - Verifies insurance and eligibility on all patients with online portals or phone calls; updates patient accounts with correct insurance information
• - Manages the accurate documentation of patient demographics
• - Determines pre-authorization necessity and obtains authorization for scheduled procedures via phone, website or form
• - Receives and posts payments from clients
• - Contacts patients and/or clinical programs directly to obtain additional insurance information
• - Monitors and completes daily fax requests
• - Communicates insurance and other important updates to appropriate staff
• - Meets established production goals
