Job summary

NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) seeks Youth Counselors to mentor and guide youth in residential facilities operated by DJJOY. The role involves supervising and evaluating youthful offenders and at-risk youth referred to OCFS, developing programs, and leading individual and group discussions to support rehabilitation.

The position requires one year of relevant service and passing a Spanish language test to demonstrate fluency.

Qualifications

• One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or in a title eligible for 70.1 transfer.
• Must demonstrate and pass a Spanish Language test to show ability to understand and speak Spanish.
• Position may be designated 55 b/c and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and guide youth in residential facilities operated by OCFS/DJJOY.
• Supervise, evaluate and guide youthful offenders or at-risk youth referred to OCFS.
• Develop, implement and monitor programs for resident youth.
• Plan, organize and conduct individual and group discussions.
• Assist youths in adjusting to facility programs and develop rehabilitation plans.
• Maintain required records and reports; may supervise Youth Support staff.
• Additional duties discussed during interview.
