Description
- Assist in conducting intensified learning experiences for students in the assigned area and relieve the certified teacher of various tasks that are primarily non-instructional in nature.
- Assist teachers and students in achieving the objectives of the program or activities.
- Maintain discipline in the absence of the teacher.
- Tutor students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow-up on learning activities.
- Help students with their daily work and find activities appropriate for their homework.
- Review class activities and daily homework.
- Supervise class breakfast and lunch activities.
- Communicate with parents to provide updates on students' progress, homework, and social behavior.
- Distribute informative letters to parents regarding their child's progress.
- Assist in filing and organizing materials for record retention and distribution.
- Assist in maintaining student records, attendance, and files.
- Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.
- Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel throughout the district is integral to this job. A remote working environment/alternate work arrangement is not an option for campus-based employees because regular and punctual attendance at the worksite and performing all duties there are essential.
Qualifications
- Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency), plus one of the following: Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, or passing an academic assessment.
- Paraprofessional certificate required from the State Board of Certification.
- One year of experience working with children.
- Knowledge of child growth, development, and behavior characteristics.
- Ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups.
- Organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Flexibility to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
- Willingness to stay current with developments in the profession.
