Job summary

Broward County Public Schools in Fort Lauderdale is seeking a Teacher Assistant, Bilingual (Spanish) to support classroom instruction and ESOL students. The role involves preparing instructional materials, translating with parents, and assisting the homeroom teacher.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, and good English and Spanish language skills. Preferred associates or 60 college hours; experience with children is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Principles of Teaching or ParaPro Test (or equivalent) completed with passing score.
• Ability to speak, read and write English and the language of the ELL population.
• Computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic assistance in home-language for individual or small groups.
• Consult with teachers on programs and materials to meet student needs.
• Assist with evaluating student progress and provide feedback to students and parents.
• Assist with ESOL eligibility testing and appropriate assessments.
• Provide translation for non-English speaking parents (phone calls, notes, letters).
• Support ESOL Parent Advisory Councils as interpreter/translator.
• Perform other non-instructional duties as assigned.
