Job summary

Sonia Sotomayor Elementary in Sioux Falls, SD is hiring a Special Education Support Professional (Spanish Speaking) at 0.875 FTE. Join the Spanish Immersion Program to support students with special needs alongside a dedicated team in a dynamic learning environment.

Requirements include two years of post-high school education or higher (or an approved test), plus at least one year of relevant experience and Spanish language ability.

Qualifications

• Two years of post high school education or higher, or be able to pass a standardized test approved by the state of South Dakota, for designated Education Assistant positions.
• At least one year of work experience in a position requiring interpersonal interaction skills and knowledge of strategies to support students with social, emotional, and behavior needs.
• Spanish speaking. Experience with behavior management.

Responsibilities

• Escorts students to transportation and other areas of the building.
• Provides personal care to students with special daily living needs (e.g., toileting, feeding, physical management) as needed.
• Provides review and practice of skills taught by a teacher with students 1:1 and in small groups in special education classroom and/or regular classroom.
• Works with students in schools and on community outings.
• Prepares instructional materials as directed/selected by teacher.
• Reinforces instructional/behavioral objectives.
• Maintains student records and data for progress notes.
• Assists with supervision during recess, lunchroom, and on the playground.
