Job summary

Joliet Public Schools District 86 is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to assist in providing instructional support under the direction of certified staff. The role includes working with students individually or in small groups to reinforce skills and to help implement classroom plans.

The position is a 9-month, full-time, non-exempt, bargaining unit role under the supervision of building administration and assigned teachers.

Qualifications

• Valid IL license with PARA endorsement.
• Degree or 60 semester hours required.
• Demonstrated concern for the child’s well‑being.
• Willingness to accept instruction.

Responsibilities

• Prepares for classroom and/or other assigned activities under the direction of the teacher and principal.
• Assist the classroom teacher with the instruction and supervision of students during classroom activities.
• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce new skills initially introduced by the classroom teacher.
• Assist with data-based strategies for reinforcing skills and monitor progress.
• Maintain anecdotal notes, written observations, and other documentation for students as directed.
• Perform general clerical duties and operate office equipment as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality and communicate effectively with staff, students, and families.

Education

Valid State of Illinois Professional Educator License with PARA endorsement

Degree or minimum of 60 semester hours of college credit

Demonstrated concern for the child’s well‑being

Willingness to accept instruction
