Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction one-on-one or in small groups as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist with classroom tasks: sets up supplies, copies, assembles materials, and helps with projects.
  • Monitor students to maintain a safe, positive learning environment.
  • Support in maintaining discipline and classroom management as directed by the teacher.
  • Attend faculty meetings, trainings, and conferences as required.

Assists the Special Education teacher in any and all areas necessary for learning, including working with students one-on-one and in small groups. Implements academic instruction designed by teachers for the purpose of meeting learning goals.The Bilingual Special Education Paraprofessional models a servant’s heart and promotes an attitude of respect, teamwork and professionalism by speaking well of other faculty and staff members; supports entire school system-lower school, middle school, upper school; prays for and with other faculty and staff; encourages others in Godly living and excellence; lovingly holds others accountable; actively pursues ways to encourage members of the schools.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:(Other duties may be assigned)Assist the classroom teacher as needed, including, but not limited to:Providing direct instruction one on one or in small groupsUnderstanding IEP goals and implementing strategies to attain individual goalsFacilitating mainstream opportunities in general education classroomsComplete classroom tasks such as setting up supplies, handing out papers, making copies, assembling booklets or assignments, precisely correcting homework, assisting with projects, etc.Work with the Teacher on prioritizing tasks for timeliness and efficiencyMonitor special education students for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.As much as possible, anticipate what needs to be doneAccompany students to and from buildings and classroomsPerform yard duty as assignedAbility to connect with students and motivate them in a positive way.Assist in maintaining discipline in classroom and demonstrate effective classroom management skillsParticipate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops, as requiredKeep attention focused on students and areas assigned at all timesTo perform the job successfully, Paraprofessionals should demonstrate the following qualities:SpiritualIntegrates his/her faith in Christ and God’s word into classroom lessonsShows support for the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their children’s educationInstructionalDemonstrates confidence in interactions with students andDemonstrates confidence in academic subjectsCarries out instructions by the teacher to promote student learningRecognizes the authority of the classroom teacher and admonishes students to do the sameWorks exclusively for the teacher assigned;
