Job description

Responsibilities
  • Implements process improvement with the use of Statistical Process Control (SPC), and measurement analysis.
  • Defines projects in regard to customer requirements utilizing tools such as: PFMEA, process flow mapping, control plan documentation and Capability Analysis.
  • Ensures Costs of Quality (CoQ) metrics are aligned with the company’s strategic initiatives, including scrap, rework, returns, appraisal and prevention.
  • Establishes programs to improve metrics using continuous improvement tools and participates in Lean Manufacturing initiatives to improve profitability, workflow and team performance; works to improve quality systems internally and externally to the plant.
  • Utilizes and teaches Lean tools (5S, Kaizen, quick changeover, value stream mapping, mistake proofing) and participates in Kaizen events as necessary.
  • Interacts with the production floor daily to ensure adequate support from Quality to meet production efficiencies and goals.
  • Reviews and studies KPIs to prevent substandard product that does not meet customer specifications.
  • Supervises and manages daily activities of Quality team members at their designated location.
  • Manages the Hold for Inspection (HFI) system; communicates HFIs to the production floor and relevant team members.
  • Investigates customer inquiries related to quality and works with Operations to resolve issues with permanent corrective action.
  • Determines root cause analysis for quality defects with production floor and management and develops resolutions to correct deficiencies.
  • Audits, summarizes and reviews the plant quality system with plant management; leads and facilitates monthly Quality Management Review meetings.
  • Prepares and communicates month-end quality report summaries within the plant and corporate.
  • Ensures compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), USEPA and state regulations; maintains government and company requirements; tracks health and safety training for all employees.
  • Travels to other plants as necessary to establish best practices or to work on root cause or corrective action for quality issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Health & Safety or Business Management.
  • Minimum 5 years of quality experience in a high-volume, fast-paced manufacturing operation.
  • Experience with preventive quality engineering techniques such as PFMEA, control plans, and process mapping.
  • Experience leading EHS-related items or projects.
  • Certifications in Environmental or Health & Safety programs preferred.
  • OSHA30 certification a plus.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing practices.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification a plus.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, good work ethic and decision-making ability.
  • Microsoft Office experience required.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and climb or balance. The employee frequently walks and is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to work in a non-climate controlled environment.

Work Environment

Salary

Salary range is $110K–$117K annually, depending on experience, work location, and skill set.
