Job summary

Mauser Packaging Solutions in Mount Vernon, OH, seeks a Quality and Safety Manager to lead the site quality system and serve as Safety Manager within operations. Qualifications

  • Requires bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Health & Safety, or Business Management.
  • Minimum 5 years of quality experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with PFMEA, control plans, and process mapping.

Responsibilities

  • Implements process improvement using SPC and measurement analysis.
  • Defines projects based on customer requirements using PFMEA, process flow mapping, control plans, and capability analysis.
  • Manages Costs of Quality metrics including scrap, rework, returns, appraisal and prevention.
  • Leads Lean initiatives (5S, Kaizen, quick changeover, value stream mapping, mistake proofing) and Kaizen events.
  • Interacts with production floor to ensure Quality supports production efficiencies and goals.
  • Monitors KPIs to prevent substandard products and ensure adherence to customer specs.
  • Supervises daily activities of the Quality team at the location.
  • Manages Hold for Inspection (HFI) system and communicates HFIs to relevant teams.
  • Investigates customer inquiries related to quality and works with Operations on permanent corrective actions.
  • Performs root cause analyses for defects and develops corrective actions.
  • Audits and reviews the plant quality system; leads monthly Quality Management Review meetings.
  • Prepares month-end quality reports for plant and corporate.

Job Description

The Quality and Safety Manager is a proactive leader who works under the guidance of corporate policies and procedures while adhering to all customer product standards and specifications managing the quality system for their assigned location. The Manager's strategic focus is to work with the plant operations team to continuously improve the quality that is built into Mauser products. This role also serves as the Safety Manager for the facility.

Responsibilities
  • Implements process improvement with the use of Statistical Process Control (SPC), and measurement analysis.
  • Defines projects in regard to customer requirements utilizing tools such as: Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), process flow mapping, control plan documentation and Capability Analysis.
  • Ensures CoQ (Costs of Quality) metrics are aligned with the company’s strategic initiatives, including scrap, rework, returns, appraisal and prevention.
  • Establishes programs to improve metrics using continuous improvement tools as well as actively participates in projects that support Lean Manufacturing initiatives resulting in improved profitability, work flow and team performance. Proactively works to improve quality systems internally and externally to the plant.
  • Utilizes and has the ability to teach Lean tools including 5S, Kaizen, quick changeover, value stream mapping, mistake proofing, etc. Participates in Kaizen events as necessary.
  • Interacts with production floor daily. Assists where needed to ensure there is adequate support from the Quality department to meet production efficiencies and goals.
  • Reviews, measures and proactively studies KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) in an effort to prevent substandard product that does not meet customer specifications.
  • Supervises and manages daily activities of all Quality team members at their designated location.
  • Manages HFI (Hold for Inspection) System. Measures, quantifies and communicates HFIs to the production floor and any other team members who need to be informed.
  • Communicates and investigates any customer inquiries as they relate back to quality. Works with Operations team to find solutions to customer complaints focusing on permanent corrective action.
  • Interacts with production floor and management to determine root cause analysis for quality defects and develops resolutions to correct deficiencies.
  • Audits, summarizes and reviews with plant management team the plant quality system. Leads and facilitates monthly Quality Management Review meetings.
  • Prepares and communicates month-end quality report summaries within plant and corporate.
  • Manages and ensures compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), USEPA and State regulations in accordance with government and company requirements;
  • Trigger, track and keep the records of health and safety training for all employees.
  • Travels as necessary to other plants to establish best practices or to work with others in determining root cause or corrective action to quality issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Health & Safety or Business Management.
  • Minimum 5 years of quality experience in a high volume fast-paced manufacturing operation.
  • Must have experience with preventive quality engineering techniques such as PFMEA, control plans, process mapping.
  • Must have experience being involved with and/or leading EHS-related items or projects.
  • Certifications in Environmental or Health & Safety related programs preferred.
  • OSHA30 certification a plus.
  • Knowledge of and experience with utilizing Lean manufacturing practices.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification a plus.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Strong problem solver with good work ethic and decision-making skills.
  • Microsoft Office experience required.
Physical Demands/Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and climb or balance. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to work in and around a non-climate controlled environment.
