Job summary

San Bernardino Unified School District is seeking a Health Services Assistant to provide first aid and routine health services to students. The role includes clerical tasks at a school site or health clinic, with bilingual requirements for language-fluent candidates.

Responsibilities include administering first aid, distributing medications, attending to health records, scheduling with the school nurse, and maintaining the health office environment.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or the equivalent.
• Current American Red Cross First Aid Certificate or equivalent.
• Current American Red Cross CPR certificate covering infants, children, and adults or equivalent.
• Valid California driver's license and auto liability insurance.

Responsibilities

• Administers first aid to students in accordance with Board policy.
• Distributes, monitors prescribed medications and conducts blood sugar tests.
• Conducts head lice examinations.
• Maintains health office supplies and equipment.
• Stocks and distributes first aid supplies.
• Maintains the health office environment and displays.
• May provide transportation to parents and children as needed.
• May make home visits on health related matters as directed.
• Makes appointments for the school nurse with students, parents, teachers and community agency personnel.
• Assists with scheduling appointments, preparing equipment and records.
• Records health related information in student cumulative records.
• Types, duplicates, collates and distributes material.
• Orders materials for health related presentations.
• Maintains health office pamphlets and materials.
• Prepares and maintains reports and records.
• Performs other job duties as assigned.
