Job summary

AERRC is seeking a school-family liaison to facilitate interactions among students, parents, and staff in a rural Alaskan setting. The role emphasizes information sharing, problem-solving with families, and coordinating with community agencies to support learning opportunities.

The position requires effective communication, bilingual ability (Yup’ik/English preferred), and the capacity to operate in a cross-cultural environment. Training and advisory meetings may be part of duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to communicate with students, faculty, administration, and parents/community.
• Bilingual in Yup’ik and English preferred.
• Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.
• Ability to carry out the duties described below.

Responsibilities

• Provides information to parents about student's progress.
• Confers with parents regarding home-school problems.
• Networks with community agencies and organizations that may be of assistance to parents, students, and the school.
• Attend Advisory School Board (ASB) meetings, if required.
• Meets with individual students who have problems of an educational, social or emotional nature, upon referral.
• Cooperates with classroom teachers to determine individual student problems.
• Coordinates activities with resource person to smooth functioning for the program.
• Maintains accurate attendance records and submits reports to site administrators.
• With supervisors approval, transports parents of students to and from appropriate activities.
• Attends meeting and training sessions as scheduled.
• Initiates parent involvement activities.
• Participates in teacher and parent orientation regarding the school program.
• Promotes understanding among students, teacher, family, and school.
