Job summary

City of Rochester (NY) is seeking an Inspector to perform onsite inspections of existing properties for code compliance, explain violations to owners, and conduct follow-up surveys in Monroe County. The role requires handling Lead Dust Wipe Tests and coordinating with the Proactive Property Management program.

Candidates must have a HS diploma and either an Associate's degree with relevant experience or 3 years in related work, plus licensure and certification requirements to be completed within

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, plus either an Associate's degree in Construction Technology or related field with 1 year of related trades experience.
• Or three years' experience as described above in trades, construction inspection, or public-facing information delivery.

Responsibilities

• Conducts visual inspections of existing properties and grounds to determine compliance with appropriate codes and ordinances;
• Completes inspection forms;
• Conducts follow-up inspections to determine if violations have been corrected;
• Explains code violations and purpose of Property Conservation Code to owners or residents;
• Conducts field surveys of a specific area to identify and cite exterior code violations;
• Conducts Lead Dust Wipe Tests;
• Conducts Quality Housing Inspections as part of Monroe county Proactive Property Management Program;
• Uses the Spanish language as needed while in the performance of job duties.

Education

Associate's degree in Construction Technology or related field

Three years of experience in trades or related field (carpentry, heating, plumbing, electrical, etc.)
