Job summary

Dallas Independent School District is seeking a Paraprofessional to assist in intensified learning experiences for students and relieve certified teachers of non-instructional tasks. You will tutor students, supervise activities, and help maintain records.

The role requires a high school diploma, paraprofessional certification, and experience working with children. Regular attendance on campus is essential.

Qualifications

• Accredited Senior High School Diploma or USA equivalency plus one of the following: Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, pass an academic assessment
• Paraprofessional certificate required from State Board of Certification
• One year of experience working with children
• Demonstrated general knowledge of child growth/development and behavior characteristics
• Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups
• Demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position
• Demonstrated initiative and a willingness to follow verbal and written instructions
• Demonstrated effective communication skills both in oral and written form
• Demonstrated flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world
• Demonstrated willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession

Responsibilities

• Assist in conducting intensified learning experiences for students in assigned area and relieve certified teacher of non-instructional tasks
• Assist teacher and students in achieving the objectives of the program or activities
• Maintain discipline in the absence of the teacher
• Tutor students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow-up learning activities
• Help students with their daily work and in finding activities appropriate for their homework
• Review class activities and daily homework
• Supervise class breakfast and lunch activities
• Talk to parents to provide updates on the student's progress, homework, and social behavior
• Distribute informative letters to parents regarding their child's progress
• Assist in filing and organizing materials for record retention and distribution
• Assist in maintaining student records, attendance, and files
• Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned
• Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position
