Student Conservation Association in Moab, Utah seeks an Individual Placement - Bilingual Outdoor Education Participant to support the Education program with hands-on field trips for K-8 students at Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.

You will translate as needed, help manage student groups in outdoor settings, and strengthen ties with the local community through park outreach and events.

Qualifications

• Intermediate level of Spanish language fluency (written and spoken preferred; spoken more important).
• Desire to work with elementary school students and explore careers with the National Park Service.
• Curiosity about making science learning culturally relevant, multilingual, and meaningful for students through bilingual facilitation in Spanish and English.
• Cultural humility and openness to multiple ways of thinking about nature and the environment.
• Attention to growing as an educator and receiving feedback on teaching and teaching materials.
• Collaborative approach and ability to manage projects independently.
• State-issued Driver’s License and be at least eighteen years of age.
• Personal vehicle ownership.

Responsabilités

• Teach standards-based lessons in English with Spanish translation as needed, manage students for safety in outdoor settings, and act as a language buddy for Spanish-speaking students.
• Occasionally develop extracurricular programming for area youth, such as junior ranger programs or after-school clubs.
• Prepare and plan for instruction, support program logistics, and safely drive a government vehicle.
• Participate in program development activities including debriefs, training, peer observation, and coaching sessions.
• Assist with translating educational materials, props, key terms, letters, and evaluations into Spanish.
• Provide feedback to improve program quality.
