Job summary

Children’s National Hospital seeks a Medical Interpreter to provide in-person, telephonic, or video remote interpretation across the Washington, DC metropolitan area, traveling between District of Columbia, Northern Virginia, and Maryland facilities to ensure timely, accurate language access for patients, families, and staff.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, fluency in English and Spanish, and completion of required interpreter certification and training to uphold

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of experience (Required).
• 1 year of experience as interpreter for individuals in critical situations (Required).
• Fluent in English and Spanish; proficient medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Eliminates language barriers to patient care.
• Facilitate communication among patients, families, and staff.
• Interpret directly and accurately, without omissions, additions or interference.
• Manage assignments independently while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Provide sight translation of patient care documents and translation of patient materials.
• Promote appropriate use of interpretation services by staff and educate on availability.
• Coordinate interpretation assignments and track progress with program leadership.
