Job summary

Lirios Pediatrics is seeking two compassionate bilingual Medical Assistants (English/Spanish) to join our pediatric care team in Austin, TX. One full-time and one part-time position will support providers by delivering direct patient care to uninsured children and serving as a critical language bridge for families.

Responsibilities include rooming patients, recording vitals, assisting with exams, vaccines, medications, and basic lab work, plus scheduling and guiding families to community

Qualifications

• Bilingual ability in English and Spanish is required for patient and family communication.
• HS diploma or GED required; CMA/RMA is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are essential.
• Ability to empathetically work with diverse families and children.
• Basic computer skills and comfort using an electronic health record (EHR) system.

Responsibilities

• Screen and room patients; record vitals, height, weight, and head circumference as appropriate.
• Document patient history, main complaints, and meds in the EHR.
• Assist providers during exams and pediatric procedures.
• Administer vaccines per AAP schedule and medications as directed.
• Perform point-of-care testing and basic lab tasks; collect specimens.
• Provide interpretation support between families and staff.
• Prepare exam rooms and maintain a clean, safe environment.
• Schedule appointments, follow-ups, and referrals; help families access community resources.
• Adhere to infection control, safety, and HIPAA policies.

Lirios Pediatrics is a nonprofit, community-based free clinic dedicated to providing high-quality, no-cost health care to uninsured children in our community. Position Summary

We are seeking two compassionate and dependable Spanish/English Bilingual Medical Assistants to join our pediatric care team (one FT and one PT). In this role, you will support providers in delivering direct patient care to children and serve as a vital communication bridge for families who speak languages other than English. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of uninsured children and their families.

Key Responsibilities

• Room patients and obtain and record vital signs, height, weight, and head circumference, as age-appropriate.
• Document patient history, primary complaints, and current medications in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Assist providers during examinations and pediatric procedures.
• Independently review records and administer vaccinations according to AAP vaccine schedule.
• Administer medications as directed by supervising provider.
• Perform point-of-care testing, collect specimens, and complete basic laboratory tasks.
• Provide accurate verbal interpretation and support communication between families and clinical staff.
• Prepare and stock exam rooms and maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
• Schedule appointments, follow-ups, and referrals; assist families in navigating community resources.
• Adhere to infection control, safety, HIPAA, and clinic policies at all times.

Required Qualifications

• Bilingual (English and Spanish) required. Must be able to speak, read, and interpret fluently for patients and families.
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work compassionately with children and families from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Basic computer proficiency and comfort using an EHR.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) — strongly preferred.
• Prior experience in a pediatric, community health, or free/nonprofit clinic setting.
• Familiarity with immunization schedules and pediatric workflows.
• Experience connecting families with social services and community resources.
