Qualifications

• Fluency in two languages with reading and writing proficiency.
• Knowledge of IDEA, IEP and related guidelines.
• At least two years of higher education in language studies/interpretation/education.
• Experience in educational settings, preferably K-12.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Confidentiality under FERPA regulations.
• Cultural competency for diverse populations.
• Ability to adapt language and tone for audience.
• Experience in special education interpreting preferred.
• Certification in interpretation or willingness to obtain within a timeframe.

Responsibilities

• Prepare bilingual materials for special education.
• Conduct pre-meetings with staff to set objectives for interpretation.
• Support families in understanding their rights within special education.
• Monitor interpretation flow during meetings to ensure participation.
• Identify misunderstandings and clarify information as needed.
• Adapt interpreting methods (consecutive or simultaneous).
• Handle high-stress situations professionally.
• Use interpretation technology to enhance accuracy.
• Advocate for language accessibility within the district.
• Travel between schools to provide on-site interpretation.
• Provide feedback on translated documents for improvement.
