Job summary

Oakland Unified School District Office of Equity is seeking an Interpreter/Translator Specialist (Spanish) to provide oral and written translation and interpretation between English and Spanish for district communications, meetings and assessments.

The role requires a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, one year of translation experience, and proficiency testing or court interpreter certification, with duties including travel to school sites and collaboration with the translation team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required in designated language or native language
• One year experience in translation and interpretation
• Pass primary language proficiency test or possess court interpreter certification

Responsibilities

• Provide fluent translation and interpretation between English and a designated language for district communications
• Prepare and translate materials for administrators, staff and parents
• Provide simultaneous interpretation using equipment and travel to school sites as needed
• Collaborate with translation team to ensure consistency with district branding and actions
• Explain words and phrases for meaning and appropriateness
