Job summary

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD is seeking an Interpreter to join the Interpreting Services team. The role facilitates communication between patients and service providers, in person or by telephone, with a focus on accuracy and confidentiality.

You will render interpreter services, translate agency documents when needed, and maintain impartiality while adapting to changing work assignments. Two years of experience and bilingual English/Spanish ability are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Two (2) years’ experience in interpretive services, required.
• Must pass the agency’s language certification exam.
• Valid Texas driver’s license, required.
• Current Automobile insurance, required.
• Ability to speak, read and understand English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Assist in facilitating oral communication between staff and consumers accurately and thoroughly.
• Maintain confidentiality of information conveyed in interpreting duties.
• Maintain impartiality while assisting with interpreting communication between patient and service providers.
• Render interpreter services in a respectful manner.
• Demonstrate ethical and professional conduct in all job duties.
• Assist in translating agency documentation from English to the requested language.
