Job summary

Northwest Regional Education Service District is seeking an Instructional Assistant - Bilingual (Spanish) in the Early Learning department. The role supports licensed teachers, assists with IEP/IFSP activities, and ensures student safety in various settings at the Tualatin Early Childhood Center.

Fluency in English and Spanish is required, with strong communication skills and ability to lift and assist students with special needs as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Fluent in English and Spanish.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in both English and Spanish.
• Ability to physically assist students with special needs as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.).
• Ability to lift students from a wheelchair to the floor and back, and on and off a changing table.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction under the direction of a licensed educator
• Communicate orally, read, and write in English and Spanish to support learners in the classroom and their families when they participate in classroom activities
• Translate notes from the teacher to the family regarding daily activities, and from the family to the teacher regarding the student
• Demonstrate cultural competence related to students who are English language learners (Spanish-speaking) and their families
• Assist teacher in working with students to complete assignments
• Assist teacher in grading and recording students assignments; maintain and distribute student records as requested
• Support students with emotional or behavioral concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills
• Take and maintain data as needed and required by the licensed teacher
• Assist students with toileting needs as directed
• Maintain students safety and monitor appropriate behavior at recess, in class and during bus loading and unloading. Notes discipline issues and completes proper paperwork for reporting such incidents
• Participate in restraint training as required
• Attend staff and team meetings
• Maintain confidentiality
• Be proactive in matters related to health and safety
• Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with staff and customers at all organizational levels
• Perform Other Job Duties As Assigned
