Job summary

State of Illinois is seeking a Human Rights Mediator to mediate discrimination charges and support mediation processes in the Department of Human Rights. The role involves organizing files, preparing mediation materials, and translating materials into Spanish as needed.

Qualifications

• Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college.
• Requires one year of professional experience including mediating disputes.
• Requires certification as a mediator (minimum 40-hour program).
• Requires the ability to speak and write Spanish at a colloquial skill level.

Responsibilities

• Mediates approximately five DHR charges per week by communicating the availability and advantages of the Mediation Program.
• Organizes and prepares files for mediation conferences, logs in parties, drafts paperwork for mediated charges.
• Translates discussions, functions/procedures/policies and documents into Spanish for individuals who cannot speak or read English.
