Job summary

Counsel for Justice in Los Angeles seeks a Paralegal – Housing to assist tenants facing eviction under attorney supervision. You will support housing clinics, prepare documents, and coordinate with volunteers.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish is required.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and client-service skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to use business communication platforms and web-based case management platforms.
  • Paralegal candidates should meet one of the two educational options: ABA-approved certificate or degree with supervised legal experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist self-represented tenants with unlawful detainer matters under attorney supervision.
  • Coordinate with remote pro bono volunteers, including scheduling, case assignment, document collection, and follow-up.
  • Provide paralegal support to Housing attorneys on clinic and non-clinic matters, including client communication, document preparation, discovery, exhibits, filings, and case organization.
  • Provide Spanish-language interpretation for client communications and translate case-related materials as needed.
  • Maintain accurate case records and contribute information needed for grant reporting and program evaluation.
  • Help maintain Housing Project procedures, templates, training materials, and referral resources.
  • Coordinate with court staff, community partners, and legal services providers as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, consistent with the role.
