Job summary

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties in Tacoma, Washington is seeking a Foreign Language Enrichment Instructor to deliver entry-level language instruction in our after-school ELO program.

This part-time role (up to 25 hours per week) involves planning, leading activities, and maintaining a safe, engaging classroom environment for elementary students. All YMCA employees receive core benefits and access to training opportunities.

Qualifications

• Must be bilingual (English at a spoken and written professional level and additional language at a spoken and written minimum elementary level).
• Minimum age of 18 or older.
• Six months or more of related experience preferred.
• Positive attitude and previous experience with children and diverse populations.
• Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare lesson plans with a progression appropriate to age and ability.
• Complete program training with site staff.
• Instruct appropriate programming as designated by skillset and supervisor.
• Provide entry level foreign language instruction twice a week to elementary school children.
• Plan, lead, and assist group activities.
• Enforce safety rules and SEL curriculum.
• Maintain equipment and supplies and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Keep attendance records and document participant progress.
• Communicate with parents and supervisor regarding performance.
