Job summary

Commonpoint Queens is seeking an Early Pathways Advisor to provide college and career readiness advisement for 9th and 10th grade students at the Academy for Careers in Television & Film High School. You will deliver individual and group sessions, develop engaging workshops, and collaborate with school staff to integrate programming.

You will support families with bilingual outreach in English and Spanish, coordinate exposure opportunities, and maintain accurate program documentation.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, School Counseling, or related field.
• Bilingual in Spanish – strong verbal and written fluency.
• At least three years of experience working with adolescents in an urban environment.
• Workshop development and implementation experience preferred; prior college counseling experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong ability to build rapport with urban adolescent populations and families.

Responsibilities

• Provide college and career readiness advisement to 9th and 10th grade students with focus on early post-secondary exploration and pathway awareness.
• Deliver individual and small group advisement sessions on post-secondary options including college, vocational programs, and other career pathways.
• Design and implement engaging workshops for students and families on high school success, early college and career exploration, and financial literacy.
• Develop and facilitate family engagement activities to increase awareness of post-secondary pathways.
• Collaborate with school staff to integrate college and career readiness programming into school culture.
• Coordinate exposure opportunities such as guest speakers, panels, and college visits for underclassmen.
• Maintain accurate documentation of student interactions using Google Sheets, Overgrad, or similar tools.
• Support development of early post-secondary planning tools and student portfolios.
• Monitor engagement and academic indicators to identify at-risk students for targeted supports.
• Identify gaps in readiness and collaborate to design improved workshops and interventions.
• Travel to school sites regularly and support programming, including occasional evenings and extended hours.
• Meetings, training, and other duties as required.
