The team works as a learning community, with regular individual supervision and group trainings to deepen expertise. Staff members receive ongoing education in speech and language, occupational therapy, and Developmental, Individual-difference, Relationship-based (DIR®) services. The organization also emphasizes infant and toddler mental health and early start principles, creating a holistic, relationship-based approach to early intervention.

Role Description

The Bilingual Early Intervention Specialist is a part-time, on-site role based in Santa Barbara, CA. In this position, the specialist provides developmentally appropriate, play-based intervention to infants and young children, supporting communication, social-emotional growth, sensory regulation, and early learning skills. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting home or center-based sessions, collaborating with families to set goals, documenting progress, and participating in supervision and team trainings. The specialist communicates with caregivers in both languages, offers coaching and education, and coordinates with other professionals as needed to support individualized intervention plans. This role contributes to a collaborative, inclusive environment that prioritizes each child’s strengths and family culture.

Qualifications
  • Strong bilingual communication skills (spoken and written) in English and another language commonly used in the community, with the ability to explain developmental concepts to caregivers.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development, infant and toddler mental health, and play-based intervention approaches, including familiarity with DIR® or similar relationship-based models.
  • Experience working directly with young children and families, preferably in early intervention, special education, or related pediatric settings.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, timely documentation, follow individualized service plans, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Comfort leading sessions in homes or center-based environments, with skills in family coaching, cultural humility, and trauma-informed practice.
  • Participation in ongoing supervision and professional development, openness to feedback, and commitment to reflective practice.
  • Minimum of a relevant associate or bachelor’s degree (e.g., early childhood education, psychology, social work, speech and language, occupational therapy) or equivalent experience; appropriate certifications or licensure for early intervention in California are preferred.
  • Ability to meet on-site work requirements in Santa Barbara, CA, including reliable transportation and compliance with applicable health and safety standards.
