Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Community Health Worker to serve at the School of Nursing Wellness Centers in Del Valle, TX, with travel across the Austin area. This part-time, grant-funded role supports health education, resource navigation, and community outreach, with backup front desk responsibilities as needed.

Requirements include Texas CHW certification, bilingual English/Spanish abilities, and a valid driver’s license for local travel.

Qualifications

• CHW Certification from the State of Texas required.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish (spoken and written).
• At least 1 year of related outreach or fieldwork experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license and access to reliable personal vehicle for Austin travel.

Responsibilities

• Develop neighborhood health and social service strategies with clinic staff and partners.
• Maintain regular communication with community partners through meetings, emails, texts, and calls.
• Provide essential services and resources to individuals and families in communities.
• Participate in outreach events at various locations.
• Educate on healthy living, nutrition, exercise and hygiene.
• Collect data and assist in reporting outreach activities and outcomes.
• Document activities following School of Nursing guidelines.
• Create and distribute educational materials for community partners.
• Back-up front desk duties: scheduling, reminders, and receptionist tasks.
• Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of patient information.
