Job summary

Broward County Public Schools seeks a bilingual instructional assistant to support classroom instruction and ESOL initiatives at Silver Lakes Elementary in Miramar, FL.

You will assist teachers, help with ESOL testing and documentation, translate for families, and participate in ELL committees. A strong command of English and the home language, plus basic computer skills, are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; Teacher Assisting Curriculum completed; passing ParaPro or equivalent test to demonstrate ability to assist in reading/language arts, writing, and math.
• Ability to speak, read, and write English and the language of the target ELL population.
• Computer skills are required; sensitivity to other cultures; ability to work with students.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic assistance and support for individual or small groups in the home-language under teacher supervision.
• Confer with teachers on programs and materials to meet student needs.
• Assist with evaluating student progress and provide feedback to students and parents.
• Assist with ESOL eligibility testing and related assessments.
• Provide translation for non-English speaking parents.
• Participate as a member of the school’s ELL committee and interpret/translator for ESOL councils.
• Perform other non-instructional duties as assigned and adhere to safety rules.
