Job summary

Unalaska City School District seeks a paraprofessional to support teachers and students in a rural Alaskan classroom.

Responsibilities include assisting with small groups, individual students, clerical tasks, and supervision during lunch and field trips. Bilingual Yup’ik and English preferred; requires high school diploma or GED and adherence to confidentiality and cross-cultural expectations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Paraprofessional qualifications per NCLB (48 sem hours or an associate degree or pass the competency test).
• Bilingual in Yup’ik and English preferred.
• Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision of the teacher, prepares for classroom activities.
• Works with small groups to reinforce material introduced by the teacher.
• Assist individual students in need of special attention.
• Performs clerical duties.
• Sets up and operates equipment.
• Assists with non-instructional routines (snack, restroom, clothing).
• Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work.
• Assists with reading and storytelling.
• Assists small groups in the library.
• Participates in in-service training programs.
• Checks attendance and records lunch money.
• Keeps bulletin boards and displays up to date.
• Supervise students during lunch, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
• Maintains confidentiality and supports ethical behavior toward students and staff.
