Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience working with youth in a school setting preferred.
• Meet NCLB paraprofessional qualifications: 48 semester hours or an Associate Degree or pass State-Approved Academic Competency test.
• Bilingual in Yup’ik and English preferred.
• Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.
• Ability to carry out the duties described below.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for classroom activities under teacher supervision.
• Work with small groups to reinforce material.
• Assist individual students needing extra help.
• Perform clerical duties as needed.
• Set up and operate classroom equipment.
• Assist with non-instructional duties (snack, restroom, clothing).
• Check notebooks, correct papers, supervise tests and make-up work.
• Assist in drill, reading, and library activities.
• Participate in in-service training programs.
• Record attendance and lunch money as required.
• Maintain bulletin boards and displays.
• Supervise students during meals, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
• Notify teacher of problems or special student information.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional behavior.
