Job summary

Oregon Department of Human Services is seeking a bilingual Social Service Specialist 1 for the Ontario area. The role focuses on protecting children by investigating referrals, assessing safety, and coordinating services. Strong interviewing, documentation, and court testimony capabilities are essential.

Qualified candidates will have a relevant degree, valid driver’s license, and bilingual proficiency; a 5% bilingual differential pay is provided after passing tests.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• If degree unrelated to Human Services, 1 year of related experience required.
• Completion of coursework equivalent to Oregon Caseworker Competency may be accepted.

Responsibilities

• Respond to referrals and assess child safety risk.
• Interview parents and children to gather information.
• Observe home environments and assess safety.
• Collect collateral information from school, doctors, therapists and law enforcement.
• Prepare documentation and enter data into systems; arrange medical evaluations.
• Present and testify in court as needed.
