Job summary

Copperas Cove Independent School District is seeking a Bilingual Aide to assist the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements, supporting the needs of our Bilingual program under the supervision of a certified teacher.

The role includes providing instruction to students, preparing instructional materials, assisting with tests, and supervising students in lunchroom, bus, and playground settings; participation in staff development is expected.

Qualifications

• Must have 48 hours of college credit, or an Associate's Degree or higher, or have met ESSA paraprofessional requirements.
• Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work well with children.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction to students under the direction of the teacher; work with individuals or small groups.
• Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Assist with administration and scoring of tests and other tasks.
• Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom and manage equipment.
• Help keep administrative records and reports; assist substitute teachers.
• Supervise students during the day including lunchroom, bus, and playground duties.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Assist the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher along with supporting the needs of our Bilingual program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Must have one of the following:

• 48 hours of college credit, or
• Associate's Degree or higher, or
• or have met formal academic assessment as required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) such as the Paraprofessional Academy offered by a Regional Service Center

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
• Ability to work well with children
• Ability to communicate effectively

Experience:

• Some experience working with children

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Instructional Support

• Provide instruction to students under the direction of teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
• Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
• Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
• Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
• Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

Student Management

• Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
• Make teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.

Other

• Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
• Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
