Job summary

Building Services of America in New Lenox, IL is hiring for a Full-Time On-site janitorial role. The position runs Monday through Friday with two shifts: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM and 4:30 PM – 12:30 AM. Pay starts at $20 per hour, with a potential raise to $21 per hour COE.

Bilingual Spanish and English required; travel not required. Facilities include offices, restrooms, and common areas. OSHA and safety protocols apply; the role requires the ability to lift and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning of assigned areas including floors, restrooms, offices, and common areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, scrub, and polish floors and surfaces.
• Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces such as door handles and light switches.
• Empty trash and dispose of waste according to procedures.
• Operate cleaning equipment safely and efficiently.
• Follow cleaning schedules, sanitation and infection-prevention practices.
• Replenish paper products, soap and disinfectants as needed.
• Maintain organized cleaning closets, equipment and supplies.
• Report maintenance concerns and safety hazards to supervision.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in sensitive areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialized cleaning of assigned areas, including floors, hallways, offices, restrooms, common areas, and other designated spaces.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, scrub, and polish floors and surfaces as assigned.
• Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, including door handles, light switches, railings, countertops, and other frequently contacted areas.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, sinks, toilets, fixtures, and related areas.
• Empty trash and waste receptacles and dispose of waste in accordance with established procedures.
• Handle and use cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, and equipment safely and according to product labels and applicable safety procedures.
• Follow established cleaning schedules, sanitation procedures, and infection-prevention practices.
• Replenish paper products, soap, disinfectants, and other supplies as needed.
• Operate cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor machines, buffers, and other equipment as assigned.
• Maintain organized cleaning closets, equipment, and supplies.
• Report maintenance concerns, spills, damaged equipment, safety hazards, and supply shortages to the appropriate supervisor.
• Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and instructions from management.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working around sensitive information or restricted areas.
• Perform additional cleaning and related duties as assigned.

Safety and Training Requirements

• Complete OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens training as required for the position and assigned duties.
• Follow all applicable OSHA safety requirements and company safety policies.
• Understand and follow procedures for handling potentially infectious materials, contaminated surfaces, and regulated waste, as applicable to assigned duties.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, gowns, masks, eye protection, and other protective equipment as required.
• Follow established procedures for exposure prevention, spill response, and reporting of workplace injuries or exposures.
• Participate in required safety training, orientation, and ongoing refresher training.
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and potential exposures to management promptly.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bilingual Spanish and English required.
• Previous janitorial, custodial, environmental services, or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
• Experience working in a professional or highly regulated cleaning environment preferred.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other personnel.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and sanitation.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and a respectful attitude.
• Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
• Ability to complete required OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens and other assigned safety training.
• Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull cleaning supplies, equipment, and waste receptacles within assigned limits.
• Ability to perform repetitive cleaning motions, including sweeping, mopping, wiping, and scrubbing.
• Ability to wear required PPE and perform assigned duties safely.
