Job summary

SiloSmashers, Inc. is seeking a BI Engineer Lead to architect, design, and govern high-impact dashboards across a Databricks- powered data platform and BI tools. You will work with federal teams and cross-functional partners to ensure visualizations are accurate, secure, and compliant.

You will own end-to-end dashboard patterns, semantic modeling, and security considerations while mentoring BI engineers and coordinating with Privacy & Governance teams to uphold data sharing rules.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building production-grade visualizations/dashboards using Power BI, Tableau, Kibana/Elastic, Databricks Dashboards, or custom web UI.
• Bachelor's degree in information systems, CS, engineering, analytics, or related field (or 8 years of equivalent experience).
• Experience with SQL queries and medallion data patterns (bronze/silver/gold) and governance controls.

• Serve as the principal BI/Visualization authority for end-to-end dashboard design and governance.
• Design and deliver BI solutions on Power BI, Tableau, Kibana, and Databricks Dashboards.
• Coordinate with Data Engineering on medallion architecture and BI performance requirements.
• Enforce privacy controls, Unity Catalog RBAC/ABAC, and data sharing rules in BI tools.
• Provide operational support, runbooks, and incident response for BI assets.

Position Overview

SiloSmashers is hiring for a Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer to support a government customer. This lead role will be responsible for architecting, designing, developing, governing, and sustaining high impact dashboards, analytic visualizations, and decision support experiences across Databrick enabled unified data platform and approved BI tools. The selected candidate will serve as the lead technical authority for enterprise BI solutioning, covering semantic modeling, metric layer design, and secure publishing of dashboards and insights to stakeholders. This position will collaborate closely with the Project Manager / Contractor Lead, federal technical teams, and cross task platform, SRE, governance, privacy, and development personnel to ensure visualizations are accurate, performant, secure, and compliant across platforms (including but not limited to Power BI and Databricks dashboards) and integrations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the principal BI/Visualization authority, owning end to end dashboard design patterns, accessibility/usability standards, data to visual mapping, and visual QA processes.
• Design and deliver BI solutions on platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, Kibana, and Databricks Dashboards:

o Author governed semantic models, calculation logic, and BI ready datasets sourced from Lakehouse tables and Databricks SQL Warehouses; implement row/column level security and governed tags via Unity Catalog.

o Establish patterns for incremental refresh, Direct Query/Live connections, and aggregation tables to balance freshness, performance, and cost.

• Partner with Data Engineering to enforce medallion architecture conventions and ensure upstream tables/views meet BI performance and governance requirements (e.g., schema stability, expectations/quality checks).
• Coordinate with Privacy & Governance teams to enforce Unity Catalog RBAC/ABAC, governed tags, lineage capture, and data sharing rules within BI tools and export pathways; ensure PTA/PIA/SORN considerations are reflected in visualization features and sharing modes.
• Provide operational support and incident response for BI assets, root cause analysis of refresh/query failures, change related regressions, and access issues; maintain runbooks, monitoring, and alerts for dataset/warehouse health and usage.
• Lead stakeholder enablement: conduct demos, office hours, and training on dashboard usage and interpretation; maintain documentation (data dictionaries, metric definitions, usage guides).
• Mentor BI engineers/analysts and enforce BI quality gates (peer reviews, test coverage for DAX/SQL, visualization accessibility checks, reproducible deployments) consistent with program DevSecOps practices.
• The BI Engineer Lead is expected to be available to the customer via telephone between the hours of 0900 and 1700 EST, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
• Five (5) or more years of experience (4 of which must be within the last 6 years) building and operating production grade visualizations/dashboards with at least two of the following: Power BI, Tableau, Kibana/Elastic, Databricks Dashboards, or custom web UI dashboards (React/Vue/D3, etc.).
• Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, engineering, analytics, or related field; or eight (8) total years of equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
• Required (choose at least one):

o Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL 300) or successor.

o Tableau Certified Data Analyst (or Tableau Desktop Specialist + demonstrable experience).

o Elastic Certified Analyst (Kibana). Demonstrates expertise building Kibana dashboards, Lens visualizations, KQL queries, and anomaly detection.

o Qlik Sense Business Analyst (QSBA)

• Must have demonstrated hands‑on experience with SQL queries and medallion data patterns (bronze/silver/gold), authoring SQL views and BI ready tables that conform to governance and privacy controls.
• Must have demonstrated proficiency with Git based workflows (GitHub Enterprise, Azure DevOps) for BI assets, versioning datasets, dashboards, and deployment scripts; familiarity with declarative bundles/CI/CD for business intelligence (BI) asset promotion across dev/test/prod.
• Preferred but not required:

o Databricks Lakehouse Fundamentals / Databricks SQL credential(s); Databricks Data Engineer Associate/Professional for candidates with strong data modeling responsibilities.

o Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS or Azure associate level) relevant to BI/data services.

• This position requires regular, physical attendance at customer sites.
