Job summary

FairWind in North America is seeking a BESS Technician responsible for installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of battery energy storage systems and related electrical equipment.

This role requires safety focus, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work in fast-paced field environments with minimal supervision, plus travel to project sites.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or electrical certification preferred.
• Prior experience in renewable energy, battery storage, solar, wind, or industrial maintenance is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on BESS equipment and related electrical systems.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose battery systems, inverters, transformers, switchgear, HVAC, and communication equipment.
• Conduct system inspections, testing, commissioning, and operational checks.
• Interpret electrical schematics and manuals.
• Monitor performance and identify potential issues.
• Support commissioning and startup activities for new BESS installations.
• Complete maintenance reports and inspection records accurately.
• Ensure OSHA, NFPA, LOTO safety procedures are followed.
• Coordinate with site managers, engineers, and vendors as needed.
• Respond to emergency service calls and outage restoration.
• Travel to project sites as required.

• Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, LOTO, and company safety procedures.
• Coordinate with site managers, engineers, and external vendors as needed.
• Respond to emergency service calls and support outage restoration activities when required.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles in proper working condition.
• Travel to project sites as required.

Work Environment

This position requires field-based work at renewable energy and battery storage sites. The role may involve working in confined spaces, elevated areas, and outdoor environments under varying conditions.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or electrical certification preferred.
• Prior experience in renewable energy, battery storage, solar, wind, industrial maintenance, or electrical systems preferred.
• Working knowledge of electrical systems, controls, and troubleshooting techniques.
• Ability to safely work with high-voltage systems and follow electrical safety procedures.
• Familiarity with SCADA systems, PLCs, or monitoring platforms is a plus.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and electrical drawings.
• Comfortable working outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and climb ladders when necessary.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.

Preferred Skills

• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
• NFPA 70E familiarity
• First Aid/CPR certification
• Experience with utility-scale energy storage systems
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
