Job summary

FlexGen, based in Durham, NC, seeks a Project Manager to lead utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System projects from contract execution to commercial operation. You will coordinate across Engineering, Software Integration, Supply Chain and Construction, ensuring safety, on-time delivery and alignment with customer commitments.

The role requires at least 5 years of project management experience in engineering/EPC/energy, strong governance knowledge, PMP preferred, and willingness to travel

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical discipline.
• Ability to utilize AI-driven tools and workflows to streamline processes.
• Minimum of 5 years of project management experience leading complex engineering/EPC/energy projects.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams in a matrix organization.
• Strong understanding of governance, controls, contracts, risk management, and standardized PM methodologies; PMP preferred.
• Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and travel willingness (10–20%).
• Willingness to travel (10-20%).

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end execution of utility-scale BESS projects from contract through commercial operation.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams across Engineering, Systems Engineering, Applications Engineering, Software Integration, Supply Chain, Construction, Commissioning, Commercial and Customer teams.
• Develop integrated project plans covering scope, schedule, budget, resource planning, risk management and change control.
• Implement standardized PMO governance, reporting, stage-gate reviews and executive communications.
• Lead reviews with customers and executives, identify risks, resolve issues, and drive decisions.
• Ensure alignment of commitments, deliverables, readiness, procurement and customer expectations.
• Capture lessons learned and promote best practices across PMO.
• Build strong relationships with customers, EPCs, OEMs and internal stakeholders.
